One day back at the turn of the new Millennium, I asked myself what would happen if someone like DJ Premier or Pete Rock produced a Merle Haggard or Johnny Cash song?
Hick Step music was inspired by a love of real Hip Hop, (the head nodding jointz) and the pedal steel guitar playing of both Jerry Garcia and Buddy Cage with The New Riders of the Purple Sage.
In an effort to promote harmony amongst all sentient beings, I asked myself if a drinking, gambling, womanizing cowboy with a pack of Marlboro could learn something from a true school rhyming emcee who skins Phillie, or the other way around? Even better: could both keep an open mind and learn something about the human experience from each other at same time, in the same place, as a manifestation of actual communication?
After all, there is only One Love in the Kosmos.
Thus the style known as Hick Step was born, intended to make you:
- Nod your head and spontaneously start free styling off the dome
- Look for your corn cob pipe and purchase a ten gallon hat with leather vest
